A novel about a British backpacker that arrives in Thailand, within his first night he is given a map pointing to a secret beach, so-called Eden. With another couple from the hostel, they find the island, and begin the idealistic life, through cracks soon to appear and the story deepens. The book managed to be dark, sinister and funny throughout. I will definitely read it again, and can’t believe this is a debut novel.
- Shows how people have the portrayal of perfect travel, though it doesn’t exist
- Displays the naiveness and hypocrisy of westerners travelling in the east
